How to Resolve Tips Cannot Be Added Error
What This Means
This error occurs when a user attempts to add a tip (cash or card) to an order, but the system actively blocks the modification. Based on system parameters, this issue is typically triggered because the underlying ticket status has already shifted—either because it has been finalized, sent to a batch closeout state, or because a lingering background sync delay is misreporting the transaction state.
How to Fix It
Please perform the following verification and recovery steps to safely check the order state and apply adjustments:
Step 1: Exit the Tipping View
- Go back to the main order interface or step out of the current payment screen to clear the locked checkout session.
Step 2: Verify the Ticket Status
- Inspect the target ticket closely to confirm its current operational state. Check whether the ticket is already fully processed, partially authorized, or locked by another active register session.
Step 3: Retry the Transaction
- If the ticket status is valid and open, reopen the payment window and attempt to apply the tip adjustment again to see if the system processes the command successfully.
Still Need Help?
If you have verified that the ticket status is open, stepped back from the view, and retried the action, but the system continues to display the "Tip cannot be added" error, please reach out to our support team for a review of your batching configurations.
