Table Showing Occupied After Ticket Paid
What This Means
When a table remains highlighted as "Occupied" on your floor plan layout even though the guests have settled their bill, it usually points to a data synchronization delay between your terminal and the cloud network. It can also happen if a small residual balance (like an un-submitted tip or tax variance) is preventing the system from automatically triggering the table status to "Vacant."
💡 Quick Check: A stuck table state will block your hosts or cashiers from seating a new party at that spot. Forcing a sync or verifying the exact payment status is usually all it takes to free up the table.
How to fix it:
Work through these diagnostic steps to clear the table status and refresh your floor plan:
Step 1: Confirm the Ticket Closure Status
- Open your active table view and click into the specific order to verify that the ticket status is officially marked as Closed.
- Double-check that the final payment went completely through and was not left in an "Authorized" or "Pending" state.
Step 2: Inspect the Order for Trailing Balances
- Navigate to the Orders Hub from your main menu and locate the affected ticket.
- Open the Payments tab to verify that the total payments exactly match the bill subtotal. Ensure no pennies or un-submitted tips are leaving a trailing remaining balance behind.
Step 3: Check for Voided Status
- Verify whether the transaction was canceled or voided rather than paid out.
- Note that if a ticket was successfully voided but the system failed to release the table automatically, this is a specialized system glitch. Skip further troubleshooting and inform the support team immediately.
Step 4: Isolate and Clear Device Cache
- Check if the table shows as occupied on all POS terminals or just your specific station.
- If the issue is appearing across multiple terminals (or if a single terminal is stuck out of sync), navigate to your POS app settings, select Clear Cache, and relaunch the floor plan view to pull down a fresh status update.
Still Need Help?
If the ticket is confirmed closed with a zero balance, the cache has been cleared, and the table still stubbornly shows as occupied, the floor plan state may be locked on the server side. Please contact our support team with the table number and ticket ID so we can force a remote table reset for you.
