Menu Boards Not Showing Menu

What This Means

When a digital menu board goes blank, fails to load, or displays a loading error, it typically indicates a break in communication between the display device and your backend menu dashboard. This can be caused by a dropped local network connection, disconnected hardware components, or a pending update that needs to be pushed live from the server.

🔄 Pro-Tip: Always check if the issue is global or isolated. If only one screen is down, it’s usually a physical hardware or local cache issue. If all screens are blank, it points to a network drop or an unpublished menu on the dashboard.

How to Fix It

Work through these diagnostic steps to identify the root cause and restore your digital displays:

Step 1: Check the Network Connection

  • Look at the network status icon on the display device or media player to ensure it is connected to the internet.
  • Verify that your store's Wi-Fi or ethernet connection is active and stable.

Step 2: Inspect the Physical Hardware Components

  • Locate the media player or digital dongle plugged into the back of the TV screen.
  • Ensure the dongle is firmly seated in the HDMI port, the power cable is securely attached, and the device's power light is turned on.

Step 3: Verify the Media Application Status

  • Ensure that the dedicated digital signage/menu board application is actually launched and running on the device.
  • If the screen is showing a basic Android, Amazon Fire, or proprietary OS home screen, manually click on the menu app to open it.

Step 4: Audit Menu Assignments on the Dashboard

  • Log into your back-office management dashboard.
  • Verify that the correct menu layout and content schedule are properly assigned to that specific screen location.
  • Ensure that you have clicked Publish to push any recent design or pricing updates live to the hardware.

Step 5: Clear Device Cache and Power Cycle

  • Navigate to the settings menu of the menu board device or media app and select Clear Cache to remove corrupted temporary files.
  • Unplug the power cable from the display dongle/media player, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in to initiate a fresh reboot.

Step 6: Determine the Scope of the Issue

  • Check if this glitch is affecting just one single screen or all menu boards across the location.
  • Use this scope to pinpoint whether you are fixing a single piece of hardware (isolated) or troubleshooting the main router/dashboard setup (global).

Still Need Help?

If the network is active, the app is open, and a reboot does not pull down the menu data, the media player may have lost its secure provisioning token. Please reach out to our support team with the device ID or screen serial number so we can re-sync it from the backend.
